What is Age?
As per Wiki,
The age of an individual, measured in days, months, and years from the time the individual was born, and is often used in psychometrics.
It is also known as chronological age. But the most commonly used is the difference between the start date and the current date. In simple terms, it is the length of time that a person has lived.
Different cultures have different ways to calculate the age of a person. For example, in the Chinese Age System, the age is calculated based on the Traditional Chinese New Year instead of the birth date.
In their culture, a child is born at age 1, and if the next Chinese New Year falls in days/ months then the child will turn 2 irrespective of the time.
Generally, the classification of age is as follows:
1 to 12 – Kids
13 to 19 – Teens
20 and above – Adults
Formula To Calculate Age in Excel, OpenOffice & Google Sheet
The formula to mathematical formula to calculate age is subtracting the birth year from the current year.
Current Year – Birth Year
To calculate Age in Excel and Google Sheet we can use the following formula using the DATEDIF function:
DATEDIF formula to calculate years is:
=DATEDIF($D$6,TODAY(),”Y”)
DATEDIF formula to calculate months passed above years is:
=DATEDIF($D$6,TODAY(),”YM”)
DATEDIF formula to calculate days passed above years and months is:
=DATEDIF(D6,TODAY(),”MD”)
OpenOffice Calc does not have a DATEDIF function. Hence, the YEARS Function is used to calculate age:
=YEARS(D6;TODAY();0))

Insane Age Calculation Methods
Apart from the chronological age, there are many other insane age calculation methods. Some of them are given below for information.
Space Years
When it comes to calculating space years, the calculations are based on the time taken by the planet to revolve around the sun. Our earth takes 365 days to revolve around the sun. Similarly, different planets take different earth days to revolve around the sun based on the distance from the sun.
Year Calculations on other planets:
Mercury: 88 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
Venus: 224.7 Earth Days = 1 Year
Mars: 687 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
Jupiter: 4,332.59 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
Saturn: 10,759 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
Uranus: 30,688.5 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
Neptune: 60,182 Earth Days = 1 Space Year
It’s fun. Teachers try to get us engaged in astronomy. Hence, children love calculating space-age in their astronomy class.
Biblical Years
Bilibical years are calculated based on lunar cycles. Thus, multiply the chronological or calendar age with 12.37 to get your Biblical age. Therefore, a 40-Year-old human is 494.8 years in biblical age.
Current Age X 12.37 lunar cycles
Presidential Years
Presidential age is double two times the tenure in the office. For example, if a US presidential candidate whose age is 40 and has spent 10 years as president then his presidential age is 40 + 10 = 50.
Actual age + Years spent as President
10 years he has spent from 40 and an additional 10 will be added to the actual age. Thus, those 10 years are considered twice his age. Once from his actual age and then his presidential age.
Korean Years
Korean Years are determined similar to the Chinese Age System. In the Chinese Age System, the age is calculated based on the Traditional Chinese New Year instead of the birth date.
Thus, in many other Asian countries like Japan, China, and Korea, age is calculated based on the number of New years passed.
Moreover, in their culture, a child is born at age 1, and if the country’s New Year falls in days/months then the child will turn 2 irrespective of their birth date.
Hence, it is the number of new years passed after the birth is the Korean/Chinese/Japanese age of that person.
